During your initial visit to our office a complete health history is taken to determine the nature of your condition and to find out if previous conditions or injuries may be contributing to your problems. You may be asked about past accidents (even old ones or minor ones; sometimes previous history you think is not significant could help us in identifying contributive causes). Previous spinal treatment, usual daily activities, sleeping positions and more.

After your consultation and history, a thorough examination is done. This includes a palpating (feeling) specific areas of your spine and associated areas. Palpation may be done during motion, sitting or lying down. Range of motion is also testing to see how far you can bend and turn. Reflexes are checked to see if nerves are damaged. Other specific neurological, orthopedic and physical exam procedures are commonly used.

Depending on your history and examination findings, x-rays are occasionally done. This helps to evaluate certain structures in your spine, determine areas of mechanical problems, identify disease processes and see if degenerative changes have occurred. Other diagnostic tests are used when necessary including MRI, CT scan, Bone Scans, laboratory tests and more. However, these are not indicated on every case.
